Case Study: LUSH

November 13, 2018

In our case studies, we look at our most notable clients and the work we've done for them as well as sharing the whats, hows and whys. Here we look at how we added extra lushness to the head office of cosmetic retailer LUSH.

About the client

An international cosmetic retailer founded in 1994 with a chain of stores across the UK. It aims to offer the freshest handmade cosmetics from head to toe, with products made with natural vegetarian recipes and organic materials. LUSH also shows excessive love and care to animals. It has a strict policy against any animal testing that all its products are tested by human volunteers.

What they asked for

LUSH wanted us to keep in line with their current planting design and complement the interior style of the building, while also embracing the importance of nature to the company’s ethos. There was an emphasis on keeping in line with their zero-waste policy.

How we provided this

Over their two floors, we filled each designated space with lush, broad-leaved foliage. The pots on their first floor were of a variety of natural textures in colours of green, grey and light browns. The shape and form of the plants here were organic and flowing to evoke thoughts of wild natural growth; these included Scheffelera amate, Kentia Palm, Philodendron xanadu, Ficus lyrata and Strelitzia nicolai.

This combination of textured pots and flowing plants continued through on the ground floor, in both Lush’s meeting room and coffee shop with additional plants such as Areca Palm, Calathea ‘Makyona’ and a range of Philodendron.

We honoured LUSH’s zero-waste policy by reusing the pots and plants that were already on site. Plants that were unable to be used were taken back to our warehouse in Greenford to be composted; helping to nourish the next generation of plants.

What the client says

‘Plant Designs provided us with a thorough consultation, showcasing an excellent understanding of our brand. They embraced our ethics and minimal waste policy, recycling as many of our existing plants and pots around our space as well as supplying lots of beautiful, new foliage. Their passion, knowledge and creative vision helped to transform our studios into the urban oasis that it now is!’
