Enter our Prize Draws here The science behind it all There is now plenty of scientific evidence to support the claim that living indoor pot plants improve the physical and mental wellbeing among workers, improve productivity, increase happiness in the office and clean the air of powerful toxins known as VOC's. See an interesting animation on YouTube. Live plants cleanse the air and combat ‘Sick Building Syndrome’. Contemporary buildings are sealed tightly to increase HVAC efficiency. Inside those sealed environments man-made articles such as paints, plastics, insulation, plywood, carpets, synthetic fabrics and detergents emit up to 300 harmful pollutants. NASA-funded studies directed by Dr. B.C. Wolverton, a 20-year veteran in horticultural research, proved that plants commonly used in interior landscaping cleanse the air of many harmful pollutants such as formaldehyde, benzyne and trichloroethylene. In a study, Dr. Virginia Lohr of Washington State University measured participants' emotional states, pulse rates and blood pressure during tests, and found that participants in the presence of plants were less stressed and reacted 12% more quickly than those in the absence of plants. Studies from Oxford University have shown that plants absorb noise in busy office environments. By cutting down on the audible elements of a busy office, plants can reduce employee distractions.
